Inspired by the new (and sporty) Kia Stinger, the 2019 Kia Forte showcases a remodeled exterior–and it’s phenomenal. With sharper edges, this sleek, more coupe-like sedan ditches the rounded, toy-car design of its 2018 counterpart for a more aggressive appearance. Inside, however, dimensions have been slightly blown up, allowing for a more spacious interior and trunk.
With a full suite of state-of-the-art driver assist and active safety features, the 2019 Kia Forte seems set to get top marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) once again.
Ultimately, the new features make Edmonton’s 2019 Forte a great match for many lifestyles. It’s safety specs and fuel efficiency make it an excellent choice for parents searching for their teen’s first car. It’s an an environmentally friendly vehicle that’s a decent size and still feels safe. The considerable cargo space and expanded interior dimensions also make the Forte suitable for weekend road trips.
Then there’s the other novelties, which we’ll discuss in more depth below:
- An upgraded infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- A revised powertrain and an exclusive, advanced IVT transmission system
PERFORMANCE & FUEL ECONOMY
What would a 2019 Kia Forte review be without a review of fuel economy? The Korean automaker chose to focus its efforts in improving fuel efficiency with the new model, and it looks to have paid off. The 2019 Kia Forte is expected to get Edmonton drivers a fuel economy rating of 6.7 L/100km, placing it at the top of its class, and lightening the burden of gas money on bank accounts.
The compact sedan has a slightly revised 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and carries over the same horsepower and torque from the 2018 model. It reaches 147 HP and 132 lb-ft of torque. Perfectly suitable numbers for this class of car.
The new transmission system (pioneered by Kia engineers) is the most exciting edition for 2019. Drivers have the option of pairing their engine to Kia’s very first Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), an enhanced spin on the CVT (continuously variable transmission). Kia sought to get rid of the unpopular kinks of the CVT, making it substantially quieter. Drivers also have the option of pairing their engine with a standard six-speed manual transmission.
Sharper handling is provided by a new motor-driven power steering system along with an overhauled suspension geometry. Braking is smoother than ever. So is throttle feel. Drivers now have a weird sense that the Forte is just an extension of themselves. And with all of the advanced driver assist and active safety features to go with it, you’re going to basically feel like Iron Man.
The 2019 Kia Forte’s interior has been completely revamped, pushing it closer to a luxury vehicle (at a non-luxury price). Regardless of trim level, the Forte’s upscale interior is built with high quality, durable materials that will accent the larger dimensions unique to this compact car.
The width and length of the Forte has been increased, giving you and four passengers plenty of space to sit comfortably. No more fighting for space or banging knees together in the backseat with this Forte. Even the middle rear-seat passenger will have nothing to complain about. The 2019 Forte is also forgiving towards the freakishly tall, since the added height of the car has added markedly improved the headroom space of the previous model. In terms of cargo space, the Forte is right up there at the top of its class with the Honda Civic.
Better yet for interior, the 2019 Forte ups its game where it counts most: infotainment. With a standard 8-inch touchscreen system, it is not only bigger, but it’s also easier to use and more intelligently laid out. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard. A wireless phone charger compatible with android and apple devices is optional.
For music lovers, there’s the option of upgrading your sound system to the premium 320 watt Harman Kardon audio system. There’s only one caveat: it isn’t compatible with country music, so don’t even try.

Editor’s Note: But he’s right.
For yet another year, safety is a non-issue for the Kia Forte in Edmonton. It was one of only fifteen cars to earn IIHS’s Top Safety Pick in 2018. It received top crash safety ratings from NHTSA. The 2019 Forte aims to keep its reputation as a safe, reliable vehicle. It uses high-strength steel, and features updated headlamps.
This is in addition to a broad array of standard and optional driver assist and active safety features:
- blind-spot monitoring
- lane-keeping assist (optional)
- forward collision-avoidance assist (automatic emergency braking)
- smart adaptive cruise control (optional)
The latter allows you to pre-set the number of car lengths you wish to keep between yourself and the car ahead of you, making driving on the highway even safer. It can also bring the car to a complete stop if necessary.
The new Kia Forte is sleek, fast, and adds some luxury touches that will impress even the most skeptical driver.
