What do a 1971 Ford Pinto, a 2004 Dodge Journey and a 2017 Porsche Carrera 911 all have in common?
To be honest, not a lot.
Except for the fact that you can use all seven of these apps in any one of these cars and they’ll help make your life about a thousand times easier.
Let’s get started, shall we?
GasBuddy’s job is simple: Find the cheapest place near you to fuel up.
How it Works: You can search for inexpensive gas one of three ways:
- Postal code
- Current location
Then GasBuddy will show you the 10 closest fuel stations and their prices. Saving a few cents here or there might not seem like a lot at the time, but it will eventually add up.
What Makes GasBuddy Worth Downloading? Not only does it find the nearest gas stations around you, it locates the cheapest ones. Have a Husky card? Collect Petro Points? You can still see if there’s one in your area, even if it isn’t the cheapest.
Imagine if there was a place where everyone on the road could go to alert one another to traffic jams, accidents, photo radar or any road hazards that might delay someone’s daily commute.
Well, now there is.
How it Works: Waze is a community-driven feature that provides a place online where you can alert (and be alerted) to current, real-time traffic conditions.
In a hurry and want to know the fastest, traffic-free route to your destination? Waze will let you know, with information uploaded in real-time from fellow drivers. The app also provides voice navigation, automatic rerouting and the ability to connect with friends via Facebook, so you can communicate your ETA while you’re still driving. Waze also provides information on local businesses if you happen to be new to the area.
What Makes Waze Worth Downloading? It’s interactive and accurate. It’s real people giving you current information about what’s happening on the road, as it happens.
Remember last summer when you wandered around the Walmart parking lot for so long you convinced yourself your car had been stolen?
How it Works: Find My Car uses GPS to save the location of your parking spot. Then, when you need to make your way back, Find My Car will guide you back to that same spot later on. It’s simple and easy-to-use.
What makes Find My Car Worth Downloading? Looking for your car in a crowded parking lot is just annoying. Save yourself the hassle.
We’ve all fallen head-over-heels for a song before. We’ve also had that same song completely murdered by the radio, due to an incessant need to overplay it, every hour, on the hour, for months on end.
Now you can love a song at your own pace.
How it Works: Spotify comes one of two ways:
- $9.99 per month
If you want to use it in your car, though, you’ll need to pay. The free version is only available on a computer. All you’ll need is a Bluetooth or an auxiliary cord, then you can stream any artist or album in your car whenever you want.
The first month is free and after that, you have to pay $9.99 per month. Spotify Premium also allows multiple users on the program, should your significant other want to use it in their vehicle.
What makes Spotify Worth Downloading? If you buy your music, you’re probably spending more than $10 a month. This way you can get a huge selection of music, for a flat rate and unlike streaming apps, you don’t have to use your data.
Cost: Free OR $9.99 per month.
We all know the feeling. You’re driving to work and your phone goes off. Not once, but twice.
Who could be texting you this early?
The curiosity eats away at you. All of a sudden, you need to see your phone.
YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT SAYS!
With DriveSafe.ly, you can avoid the distracted driving ticket and still settle your curiosity.
How it Works: DriveSafe.ly reads your (SMS) messages and emails aloud for you and automatically responds without you ever having to touch your phone. It’s a one-touch, easy-to-use setup that is Bluetooth compatible.
Plus, it reads shorthand. So you can LOL whenever you want.
What makes DriveSafe.ly Worth Downloading? It prevents accidents while still keeping you plugged into what’s happening on your phone and you’ll also avoid a distracted driving ticket.
With this app, size does matter.
How it Works: iCarMode allows you to access your music player, contacts, and navigation system easily with a big button display. Mount your iPhone on your dashboard, open the app and you’re good to go.
iCarMode also allows shortcuts to some of your other favorite apps (like Shazam or SoundCloud) so you don’t have to go searching mid-drive. It will even remind you when your parking meters’ about to expire. That feature in itself makes the download worth it.
The newest 3.0 version now sports a night theme, which automatically changes the background of the app according to the local sunset.
What makes iCarMode Worth Downloading? It keeps everything you need on your phone in one place. It’s also really easy to use because of the large buttons.
Cost: $2.49 CAD
If you ask us, this app should come automatically downloaded on all androids.
How it Works: Dashdroid is great for three reasons:
- It’s simple
- It’s inclusive
- It makes your life a hell of a lot easier
The display reads the time, weather and current driving speed at all times. It also keeps your four favorite driving apps together in the same place for easy access.
Dashdroid can block calls or texts if you don’t want to be distracted while on the road. And if you don’t want people to think you’re ignoring them, pre-program a response on your phone to let them know you’re driving and you’ll get back to them once you’ve pulled over. It can also automatically turn off Wi-Fi, connects to Bluetooth and you can customize the app to use as little battery as possible.
What makes Dashdroid Worth Downloading? The unique thing about this app is its ability to block phone calls or texts. This is a perfect feature for those who want to be free of distraction while driving.
Do you already have one of these apps? Which is your favorite?
