Range Rover is designing an SUV that will snuggle in-between the $43,000 Discovery Sport and the $50,000 Evoque. Canada, meet the all-new Range Rover Velar; a sprinkle of utility, a dash of crossover and a pinch of coupe… And a direct competitor for the highly-popular Jaguar F-Pace.
2017 Range Rover Velar – What We Know So Far
The Velar will be in direct competition with the Porsche Macan but more importantly, it will stand toe-to-toe with the Jaguar F-PACE. The F-PACE helped launch Range Rover’s sister brand into an all-time monthly sales record last year when the SUV was released.
(Evolution of the Range Rover Family)
- The Velar (pronounced vel-ar) was actually a prototype Range Rover back in the 1960s… When the luxury SUV game was just getting started.
- On Wednesday, Range Rover released a sneak peak of the brand new SUV. In addition to a panoramic glass roof and some familiar wraparound Range Rover headlights, you get a tiny view of what looks to be a large infotainment system (perhaps taking some tech inspiration from the Sport).
- As far as what’s UNDER the hood, that remains to be seen. The engine will likely fall somewhere in-between four-cylinder and six-cylinder units and will come from the Jaguar’s Ingenium family (another head nod at the F-Pace).
- The New Velar will be unveiled on March 1, just before the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
